Project overview

Mobile product concept / HP
A mobile control experience for an affordable printer, designed to work without an internet connection or an app download.
01 / The challenge
The brief proposed a $99 CISS printer without a display, Bluetooth, scanner, or physical control panel. Removing hardware could lower production costs, but also removed familiar ways for people to understand and control the product.
02 / My contribution
I defined the mobile visual language, reusable components, UI documentation, and motion direction. I also supported design reviews and quality standards while working with UX, interaction design, industrial design, and R&D partners.
03 / Design decisions
Collaborative journey mapping and workshops helped reduce the proposed setup flow from six steps to four.
Use recognizable mobile interactions and a consistent component vocabulary, while carrying HP’s brand into the experience.
Work with UX partners on prototypes and test planning, refine the work from user feedback, and present the cross-functional proposal to leadership.
04 / Outcome & perspective
The proposed flow eliminated two steps. The concept won HP’s internal Shark Tank competition and was selected for implementation. These are concept and selection outcomes, not a claim of measured post-launch adoption.
Hardware cost and user experience cannot be treated as separate problems. The concept made the interaction model part of the product strategy, while creating a shared direction for a multidisciplinary team.
